Applied Behavior Analysis is the science of understanding and improving socially significant behavior. Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) work with their clients to objectively define and analyze behavior within the context of the environment to determine what factors influence the behavior. Applied behavior analysis focuses on developing the principles of learning and acquiring behavior. Many fields use behavior analytic principles: schools, nursing homes, hospitals, businesses, and developmental disabilities.
Verbal Behavior
Verbal behavior is one of the tools in the behavior analysis tool box. Verbal behavior refers to analyzing verbal behavior in the same way that other behaviors are analyzed. Verbal behavior serves a function and it is important to understand this when teaching a child how to communicate. Some children can label items but cannot request items and vice versa. Analyzing verbal behavior and working off the child's motivation is the most effective way to develop language and communication.
| ABA and Autism | Over 30 years of research support the use of behavioral techniques to teach children diagnosed with autism. |
| Assessment | Each child is assessed using the ABLLS-R, VB-MAPP, Parental Interview, Functional Assessments, and additional assessments when applicable |
