Within all services a heavy focus is placed on developing language and communication. Typically, when a child diagnosed with autism or a speech delay has the tools to communicate, the child excels in other skill areas and challenging behavior decreases.
Workshops
Community workshops are provided on a regular basis. When providing workshops we aim to provide them for free or less than $20/person. Workshop topics include: ABA 101, addressing challenging behavior, verbal behavior/motivation, using reinforcement, potty training, developing communication, and advancements in autism intervention. Workshops are available upon request. Workshops can also be individualized and designed for your agency's unique needs. To help community members determine if a workshop is appropriate for them, we have designed a level system to indicate the workshop content:
-Level 1: These workshops are most appropriate for people who have little to no experience with behavior analysis.
-Level 2: These workshops are most appropriate for people who have attended a few workshops or trainings about ABA and are familiar with some of the terminology and techniques.
-Level 3a: These workshops are most appropriate for people who have taken coursework in ABA, been incorporating ABA in their work or lives, but who might not be familiar with the topics listed in the workshop summary.
-Level 3b: These workshops are most appropriate for people who are BCBAs or BCABAs or who have been incorporating ABA in their work or lives for a few years.

Supervision
Supervision for aspiring behavior analysts is provided by our BCBAs. Supervisees are required to complete a portfolio, assigned readings, participate in task list discussions, participate in biweekly one-on-one supervision meetings, and complete other tasks as assigned. Supervision focuses on teaching the supervisee how to think like a behavior analyst as opposed to memorizing terms and techniques. Distance supervision is available but videos must be sent on a set schedule. In order to accommodate the variety of experiences that people have who are completing the coursework, we have designed a level system for supervisees wishing to work with Navigation Behavioral Consulting, LLC:
-Intern: Limited positions are available for people who desire to work in the field of behavior analysis but do not have experience working with children diagnosed with autism and/or with ABA. Interns are required to complete a three month unpaid internship where they will learn basic ABA techniques by observing sessions and collecting data for 8-10 hours/week. Hours worked during the internship count as supervised fieldwork as required by the BACB. Supervision hours are provided free of charge. Details of the internship are flexible based on the intern's need.
-Tutor: Limited positions are available for people who have experience working in the field of behavior analysis and/or with children diagnosed with autism. People who are interested in working as a tutor and receiving supervision at the same time, must complete an application and have experience using some of the basic procedures and techniques used by Navigation Behavioral Consulting Group. Supervision hours are provided free of charge.
-Supervisee: Limited positions are available for people who do not live in the Tidewater/Hampton Roads area and/or who already have jobs where they are using behavior analysis but they need supervised fieldwork hours as required by the BACB. Supervision is provided at a flat rate of $200/month this includes at least 2 hours of 1-1 supervision, observation, review of programming, access to data sheets/programming materials, and ongoing feedback/guidance. Rates are flexible depending on the supervisee's need.
